Kansas Archeology Training Program 2024

Aggie’s Dream Storm Shelter/Community Center, Crawford State Park - June 10 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Work alongside professional and avocational archeologists to investigate both a prehistoric and historic archeological site in southeast Kansas!

No experience is necessary – just a desire to learn. Volunteers can attend for a few days or the entire 10 days of the field school after attending orientation and Principles of Archeology classes, offered on the grounds of Crawford State Park. A course on Historic Architectural Evaluation and Survey and a full schedule of evening programs will be free and open to the public. Participants are required to complete the online registration.

Field School registration fee: $35 for members of the Kansas Anthropological Association or Kansas Historical Foundation, $25 for participants 65 and older, and $15 for students currently enrolled in middle school, high school, or college. Non-member fee is $90.

Participants must be at least 12 years of age. Those younger than 14 must always work with a parent or other sponsoring adult. Participants between 14 and 18 years of age must be accompanied on the project by a parent, guardian, or sponsor. Dig location is near Bourbon/Crawford County line. For security, directions to dig site will be released to participants after registration. Sponsored by the Kansas Anthropological Association and Kansas Historical Society.
