Symbols of Sacrifice

Fort Scott National Historic Site - May 22, 2020 - May 26, 2020

Symbols of Sacrifice

From Friday, May 22-Tuesday May 26, 2020, Fort Scott National Historic Site is pleased to present Symbols of Sacrifice on Memorial Day weekend, a virtual event , honoring the sacrifice of Americans throughout our nation’s history. The main focus of the event for the past several years has been a Field of Honor on the historic fort parade ground, where small US flags flew in tribute to service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep this country free. The purpose is to remember the fallen, their sacrifice, and their humanity, not to glorify war.

This year, due to COVID-19 concerns, the event will take place online, with images of past events and video tributes to fallen soldiers being posted on our websits and the site’s Facebook page throughout the weekend.
